Wallpaper is making a comeback with trendy new wall coverings and variety of material options. Wallpaper is a great option when you're thinking of creating a new atmosphere for your home.

Developed over thousands of years, it's now available in such a wide range of colours, textures, patterns and styles that even the most fastidious of interior decorators are satisfied.

Metricon’s Interior Designer Jacinta: "Wallpaper is becoming massively popular and is growing exponentially every day." She says the wonderful design effects available make it easier to change your style with the seasons.

Wallpaper is now eco-friendly, with the use of materials such as "bamboo, jute or sisal, or any numbers of products that have a great eco story," says Jacinta.

You can even have your paper custom-made or use silk wall coverings that can be made so that the pattern is proportional to the space you are working in.

No space is unsuitable to be wallpapered. "It all depends upon the space being transformed. Light plays a big part of the impact of wall covering, so there is limited benefit in putting something dark in an already dark space, for example the end of a dark corridor, but you could have huge impact if you put something metallic, reflective and colourful in the same space."

"The resurgence of decoration is driving wallpaper trends worldwide. In Europe and the US wallpaper has always been very much a part of decorating, while Australian consumers are embracing wallpapers into their interiors more than ever before."

She says today's wallpapers are more beneficial than paint as it is less stark, adds a three-dimensional aspect and can add texture, such as grass wallpapers.

Jacinta says the look of a room can be changed with ease. "A wallpaper makeover deletes the necessity of preparation and mess. It also offers the opportunity to renovate in stages, for instance, one room at a time, which is very beneficial in controlling costs and meeting budgets when using quality papers," she says.

Thankfully these days we can slip in and out of new trends whenever our mood swings, borrowing all those hip 1920s-'60s styles, with a 21st century glue!
