Being out in the sun makes us feel great but there are plenty of times when we need a break from the heat.

Our homes also need a little extra care and attention during hot weather to look in tip–top condition and importantly, perform at their best.

Here are some easy maintenance steps and tips that we recommend you consider implementing over summer.

• If your evaporative cooler hasn’t been serviced since last summer, don’t delay. Regular servicing may extend the life of the unit, saving you a lot of money. Check with your manufacturer for their recommendations.
• If you have a coloured concrete or paved driveway, does it need resealing? These materials fade and keeping them in good condition can help maintain the value of your home.
• A lot of people have touch–up paints left from construction. Keep them out of reach of children in a cool, dry place. Stored correctly, they’ll last for a couple of years at least.
• If you’ve noticed any leaks around your home from the spring rains, take action straight away to minimise damage.
• Dust and dirt are a big factor in the drier months so don’t forget to clean drain holes and lubricate window tracks. Outside ledges, vertical planes, mouldings and sills also need a good dusting.
• We should all be smart about using water around the home – it’s not only good for the environment but also for your pocket.
