Metricon, Victoria’s leading homebuilder, always prides itself on offering home buyers the latest in design innovation, and the hub of the home – the kitchen – certainly hasn’t been forgotten.
According to Metricon Product Development Manager, Adrian, the trend in contemporary Australian homes to incorporate a modern, open plan kitchen design has been taken a step further with the re-emergence of entertaining luxury – the butler’s pantry.
In older homes the butler’s pantry has long been a status symbol of affluence, often acting as an in-between room for the servants to prepare food out of the sight of guests.
In today's homes, the butler may not be present, but the area serves the same purpose.
This room usually sits next to the kitchen and near the dining room, providing the perfect venue for dropping off dishes, popping a dish in the microwave and grabbing another bottle of red to accompany dinner.
“Open plan kitchens and living areas are now a staple part of any Australian home, however, open plan also means that it is a little more difficult to hide kitchen clutter and mess away from guests,” said Adrian. “The traditional butler’s pantry is making a huge comeback as it provides convenient storage and additional food preparation space that can be easily shut off from the rest of the home.
"It's more than just a large walk-in pantry. Now you may find a sink, additional oven, temperature controlled wine fridge or another dishwasher in there."
Adrian added that the area also offers a practical solution when returning home from grocery shopping. “The butler’s pantry should have handy access from the garage so heavy shopping can be carried into the home easily and conveniently.”
One of the best examples of how well a butler’s pantry can improve and expand the work and storage area of a kitchen, is in the Imperial, Lincoln and Chelsea. To find out more visit www.metricon.com.au
