Cosy LivingTo create warmth in your living room, try wallpapering or painting a feature wall in a bright colour. Red, yellow and orange are warm, friendly colours that can make a space seem cosier. Their intensity can be calmed with neutral shades for upholstery, lamps and rugs.

Metallic colours can also create a feeling of luxury and warmth.

“You can mix metallics – gold with bronze, gold with silver. And vary the intensity by using burnished or crumpled silver, or a tiny edge of metallic paint next to a near-black,” Tracey, Metricon Interior Designer suggests.

Boost the temperature of a room with woollen throw rugs and big, soft cushions covered in velvet or other textured fabrics.

“We are moving away from hard geometry to something more fun and humorous,” concluded Tracey.

Tips to get the cosy feel at home:

  • Rearrange the seating in your living room to face the fireplace.
  • Select one colour from favourite artwork and use it as a background or accent colour.
  • Pile cushions on couches, chairs and beds for a soft luxurious impression.
  • Throw a warm, fluffy blanket over the corner of a couch to snuggle under on a cold evening.
  • Light candles and use more ambient lighting.
  • Simply add more objects or furniture to instantly warm up a cold, empty room.
