When designing spaces for children, you can throw away the rule book and have some fun.
Children are sometimes ignored when architects come through with their notebook in hand. Usually the home design is directed towards the parents' aesthetic: a neutral colour scheme and designer furniture are the usual outcomes.
So when planning to either build a new home – or renovate the existing – it is always worthwhile consulting the children and younger house members. Although the resulting rooms may not be captured in home magazines, they're exciting and much- loved spaces for their young occupiers.
Metricon’s Interior Designer Jacinta suggests adding splashes of colour will help ensure the space is a happy environment and will keep the interest of kids.
“When fitting out a display I always try and keep in mind the children when I decorate. I particularly like including pieces like rocking chairs or fun shaped beds – like racing cars to add to the mood of a room.
In the children’s rumpus room items such as bright paintings – even their own creation from school – add a nice personal touch to a room, making a house feel more like a home.
For the extra creative you can purchase amazing bean bags which can replace couches or chairs. This is a great way to add colour and liven up a relatively quiet space.
And for families wishing to be that little bit more adventurous – item such as sculptured animals, can be kept in corners of room to add a bold statement and help create a fun space for children to relax in,” offered Jacinta.
Jacinta suggests shopping online for inspiration and to secure some great bargains.
Integrated living for all of the family.
