Storage tips for the laundry and bathroom

If you're lacking space yet you yearn for a large bathroom and functional laundry, the solution could be to combine the two. This might sound silly – but really its genius.

With clever positioning, well-planned storage and an appropriate screen, it's easy to pull the two rooms together into one organised and functional space. In any bathroom, a recessed space can become an efficient laundry thanks to a simple built-in cupboard and a gorgeous curtain. Sorting laundry as you go makes washing day a breeze.

Clearly labelled baskets, each slotted into its own shelf, makes it easy for all members of the family. The labels can be printed at home and then laminated before they are attached to the baskets with string.

Transferring powders to storage containers is not only an attractive option, it's also safer for those with young children as the sealed lids are harder to open than the flap on a cardboard box. Just remember to clearly label each container.

A hanging rail above the sink is an excellent place to dry delicate pieces that won't withstand the heat of the dryer. It's also a good spot to hang creased clothing for a spot of steam treatment while you shower. The curtain is the element that ties this set-up together. As well as screening the machines when they're not in use, it allows you to keep the baskets easily accessible and adds a soft, decorative touch to the whole room.

These simple tips will help keep your bathroom looking clean and mess free all years round.
