Tips for designing with ‘Indigo’With reds, golds and even blue tones now common in brick home designs, a new colour of the rainbow may now be the feature of your new homes façade – Indigo.

Selkirk has only recently introduced “Indigo” to their extruded clay brick range and it is already being lauded by developers and home builders alike.

While bricks featuring blue-black tones continue to remain popular in many new home designs, consultation with customers and colourists identified a desire for something ‘new’ whilst in keeping with the darker brick trend.

Quick to react to market demand, Research and Development set about creating a unique brick, incorporating the purple hues we now often see on modern painted façades and interior designs.

Selkirk General Manager Sales and Marketing Simon Meadows, said once the trend had been identified the R&D team worked quickly and within months, trials were underway. Keen interest during these product trial stages meant that Indigo was then quickly produced in commercial quantities and officially launched to the market. This commitment has been rewarded with Indigo already featuring in several homes throughout Victoria.

Selkirk has the following tips for those wishing to feature Indigo in their new home design:

  • Ask for your bricks to be laid using white or natural grey coloured mortar with a rolled joint for a striking effect which accentuates the colour of the bricks.
  • Match window and door frames with complimentary blacks, silvers or greys. Suggested powder coat colours include Satin Black and Ultra Silver, or Colourbond’s Woodland Grey and Dune.
  • For roofs, fascias, gutters, downpipes and garage doors, try dark blacks and charcoals for a bold statement. Suggested Colourbond colours include Monument, Surf Mist, Shale Grey, Loft or Evening Haze.
