Weekend project for year-round fresh veggies

With grocery prices on the rise, there is no better time to plant a backyard vegetable patch. Apart from the cost-saving and convenience of having fresh produce readily available, home-grown fruit and vegetables also provide peace of mind in knowing what’s really gone into those crunchy greens or tasty tomatoes.

Spring is the ideal time of year to undertake such a project and for budding gardeners have the perfect opportunity to create a patch to be proud of.

• Design – plan the best plot for your veggie patch.
  Your veggies need at least six hours of sunshine a day to grow well, choose a spot away from trees and large shrubs.
